How much do you love doing your accounts?
As you may know, I love a good bit of web tech. So when I started to review my accounting and bookkeeping systems last summer, I felt sure I could improve on my Google Docs’ spreadsheets!
I looked at several systems but the one I ended up with and have used for the past six months is FreeAgent.
Sorting out weekly and monthly invoices and receipts can be a right royal pain in the you-know-what. Yes, you can delegate the whole process but you still need to be in control of your cashflow and monthly profit and loss. And this is what I love about FreeAgent.
It is a simple and easy to use bookkeeping system that allows you to upload your bank statements, as well as your PayPal statements and any other credit card gateways you are using. With a couple of clicks, you can have your outgoings allocated to the right category.
My Virtual Assistant, Alexia, uses the system to manage all my clients’ invoices and I get to keep my finger on the pulse on my weekly incomings and outgoings.
It even estimates your tax bill so it will be less work for my Accountant which means a smaller bill for producing my company accounts and tax return. Great news for me, not so great for Keith!
This is an affiliate link so just wanted to make sure you were aware that you would be giving me a few pence off my monthly fees if you decided to give it a go – but I only recommend what I like to use myself. A bit like Victor Kiam (although I won’t be buying the company!)

I wholeheartedly agree with you – Freeagent has really helped my business – and not just organising the accounts!!
We have clients on monthly / annual hosting plans which I used to have to keep a spreadsheet for renewals etc, but Freeagent recurring invoices sorts that out for me so I don’t even need to worry about it.
The dashboard where you can see recent updates and an ongoing profit & loss account on a month by month basis really helps you keep tabs on how your business is currently performing.
A great application which I’ve recommended to lots of fellow business owners!
