Are you selling wasp catchers during the wasp season?
Last week the kids and I stopped off for a bit to eat at the local garden centre. It was an independently run garden centre that offered a great range of garden stuff, including a very nice cafe.
Sitting outside, the wasps had a field day with my kids’ apple juice (bad choice I know!) and I noticed a range of brightly coloured wasp catchers over our heads, filled to brim of these pesky pests. (If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seem my grumbles about these annoying little pests over the summer!) What a great idea, I thought. I must get myself some of these.
So after we had finished our lunch, I went to ask at the counter about the wasp catchers hanging up in the cafe and in which aisle I could find them in.
“Oh, we don’t sell those any more. People keep asking about them but they came in a big order a few years back and once they were sold, we haven’t ordered them again since.”
Hmmmm!
Missed opportunity? Absolutely.
And when you own business, you need to be thinking about your clients’ needs throughout the year. Spot the opportunities and get ready to offer the right solutions at the right time.
Sell wasp catchers during the wasp season and you’ll find it easier to make more sales.

Very good point, you are making Karen! It is easier to sell things when there is a demand for it! Worth anticipating demand too!

My dad fell into a wasp’s nest when he was a little boy whilst trying to catch butterflies and was stung head to toe.. he has hated them ever since!
Hey I wonder if Amazon sell them, or you could add a link to buy one from THIS blog post so YOU can make the most of the opportunity Karen!

Urrgh, anything that deals with wasps is a good thing as far as I’m concerned.
Seriously, what a missed opportunity! A bad year for wasps, and no wasp catchers! Actually I wonder if they do work, as we used to have several on our fruit trees when the kids were little, filled to the brim with beer, and all they did was to create drunken wasps!

I’ve never used them (Where we live it is WAY too windy most of the time for anything smaller than a 747 to land…..
Maybe the trick is to only put a small amount of beer or whatever in the bottom so that they get too drunk to figure out how to fly out of the bottle…?

You just quoted my “favourite” response when I ask for something in a store “Oh loads of people ask for that/those but we don’t stock it/them…” One sales assistant even gave me cheery directions to another store where I could buy what I was after!
Go figure!
Anyway the point you make is a great one. Finding out what people want and then supplying that need is the trick (as you have aptly dealt with in a subsequent blog!)
By the way – thought of you yesterday when I was in TKMAXX. Guess what I came face to face with selling at £2.99………….
Warm regards
Angie

Great tips, and not just for wasp catcher selling, but business in general! These glass wasp catchers are among the prettier ones, and they really are popular because when it’s no longer wasp season, they can double as garden lanterns.
