Interesting points Karen and Alice.

You can also link blogs and LinkedIn (easy with Wordpress) and don't forget to hyperlink text to other articles as well.

Great post Karen, but what about:

* great content: people want something good to read to want to keep coming back

* relevant niche: the subject matter is always a draw for followers, and make sure your header clearly states this

* non-spammy: don't write any old stuff for the sake of it, nor stuff the content so full of keywords the post doesn't read properly

* infrequent postings: if there's nothing new to read, why bother returning?

* good layout: I've seen some blogs that are extremely difficult to read due to dark backgrounds, tiny text, lack of white space and a cluttered appearance

* don't be boring: use the sidebar with relevant widgets to help your readers take full advantage of your blog, including links in the blogroll and invitations to your social media profiles

* more pages: why stop with only posts? At least up-date your About page so readers can find out more about the author, and I'm sure you could include some more information on other pages

And if anybody else has more questions, go ask the fairy blog mother, who can be found on my blog (link above)!
